Sign-Lord, Star-Lord, Sub-Lord

After praying to Guruji Sri KSK and Lord Mahaganapathy let me try to explain different concepts of KP in a series of small articles. Lot of literature is available but still I try to explain them in brief for my satisfaction.

I assume readers possess the fundamental knowledge of signs, stars, planets, aspects and vimshotharidasa system.

KP is unique about using stars and their sub-divisions for offering predictions unless like other systems of Astrology those add value to aspects, nature and lordships of the planets.

KP always discuss about a set of three planets in its analysis. They are Signlord-Starlord-Sublord; the quintessence of KP lies in these three planets. The following is the explanation for them:

Sign-Lord

As we all know, there are twelve signs allotted to five planets. Each sign is headed by a planet called as “Signlord”. Sign lord will have ownership over the houses contained by it. In few cases, there may be more than one house in a sign in such condition the sign lord is considered to be the owner of both the houses. Remember KP uses “Placidus System of house division” and “KP Ayanamsa” for all its horoscopes.

(Pls note that sometimes there will not be any house in a sign which we call as “intercepted sign” in such a case the owner of the sign will not be considered as house lord for any bhava)

Usually signlord is considered to ascertain the strength of the planet while positing in that sign. That means planet will be strong when it is in a sign congenial to it otherwise weak. Strong planet will offer results with more intensity whereas weak planet has lesser intensity. For instance Sun a fiery planet will do well in fiery signs like Mesha-Simha-Dhanus but weak in watery signs.

Star-Lord

There are 27 stars in the zodiac; owned by 9 planets. KSK called them as “zones”. Planet owning a star is called as “Starlord”. Planet tenanting a sign is stronger than the signlord and similarly Planet in a star is stronger than the star lord. That’s why it is said that “tenant is stronger than the lord”.

Every planet offers the house results of its occupation and ownership. More importantly occupation is stronger than the ownership. That means a planet in a house offers the results of that house more predominantly than the houses it owns. It will give equal preference to the house matters of its ownership only when there is no planet in its house otherwise when its house is vacant! These rules are very important in KP.

As said above the ability to offer the house results of a planet is stored in its “zones”. They will be executed by the planets tenanting in those zones. If there are no tenants in its “zones” then alone planet will offer the result by itself.

Therefore planet will offer the results of its star lord. Otherwise star lord will offer its results through the tenants of its stars.

Sub-Lord

We know that planets are allotted dasa years in an unequal proportion under Vimshotharidasa system of 120 years. The rationale of this division is not known but still Vimshothari is the best tool for timing the events. Therefore each planet shares these 120 years period in a ratio. KSK divided a star into 9 parts in this ratio only. Each part is called as “Sub-Division” and the ruler/owner of this sub division is called as “Sub-Lord”.

According to KSK star is important than sign whereas sub is more important than the star. That means among the trio Sub-Lord is most important. He says that whether the results pertaining to the planet and its star lord are decided as favourable or unfavourable by the Sub-Lord of that planet only.

How can we say whether the Sub-Lord is favourable or not? As said earlier, in KP an event will take place due to the combination of few houses. That means few houses co-operate with the event on contrary few houses negate the event. If the sub lord of a planet is signifying houses that are co-operative for the event in question, then alone that planet will vote for the event otherwise not.

Therefore it is clear that Star-Lord offers its results through the planet tenanting it whereas the Sub-Lord decides whether the planet can offer a particular event or not during its period and the Sign-Lord will decide the strength and expression of the planet.
